Back and neck injuries are the most common type of injuries that drivers and passengers suffer in car accidents. These injuries range from neck sprains and strains, to whiplash and to herniated or bulging discs. Car accidents can cause serious damage to the body. It may take weeks, or sometimes even years for individuals who have sustained a back injury due to an accident to experience a full recovery. Depending on the severity of the accident, physical rehabilitation and chiropractic adjustments may be required to help alleviate pain from herniated discs in the spine. For more serious cases involving paralysis, surgery is often necessary in order to restore sensation, strength and mobility. Even with treatment, it is not always possible for accident victims to regain their former level of functioning. The best thing accident survivors can do is persist in their recovery journey, remain positive and ask for help when needed.
